The construction of the second track on the cross-city line in the centre of the capital of Małopolska is coming to an end. As of June 12, PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. is planning a double-track service on the Kraków Główny - Kraków Płaszów section. The investment co-financed by EU funds from the CEF Connecting Europe Facility will increase the capacity of the railroad on long-distance and regional routes.

From 12 June, trains will use two tracks on the Kraków Główny - Kraków Płaszów section. Traffic conditions in the region will improve.

One track is used for crossings. The construction of the second track is being finished. The tracks are laid. Electricians hang the catenary grid. Railroad viaducts over Powstańców Wielkopolskich, Dekerta, Kopernika and Grzegórzecka streets have undergone load tests. The second of three bridges over the Vistula will undergo a similar test.

The tracks will be carried over new flyovers in the center of Krakow and modernised viaducts over Lubicz, Kopernika, Grzegórzecka, Miodowa, Dekerta, and Powstańców Wielkopolskich streets. Trains will cross the Vistula using the new bridge which replaced the previous structure.

The track being prepared will be intended for long-distance train traffic. On this section, trains will be able to travel at speeds of up to 100 km/h. The side tracks will be for agglomeration and regional trains. Such a solution (four tracks) will facilitate traffic flow and the possibility of launching additional connections.

The task is co-financed under the CEF "Connecting Europe Facility." More about the project: www.krakow-rudzice.pl
