Poland is laying new tracks to the future. With EU-backed funding, the Słupsk–Lębork railway line is getting a major upgrade — promising faster trains, modernised stations, and improved access for thousands of passengers travelling towards Gdańsk and the Tricity region.

The railway line between Słupsk and Lębork is undergoing a major transformation. Passengers are already seeing the first benefits of this investment thanks to the ongoing reconstruction of stations and stops along the route. It is one of the largest infrastructure projects currently underway in the Pomeranian Voivodeship, implemented by PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. (PKP PLK).

The modernisation of the Lębork–Słupsk section (line no. 202 Gdańsk Główny – Stargard), including Słupsk station, aims to enhance travel comfort toward the Tricity area. The project, worth over EUR 420 million excluding VAT, is co-financed by the Operational Programme Infrastructure and Environment (POIiŚ) and the European Funds for Infrastructure, Climate and Environment (FEnIKS).

At Słupsk station, track layout towards Ustka has been rebuilt. Tracks leading to the regional transport base, the freight yard system, and new service tracks have been completed. Finishing and installation work is underway at the local control centre (LCS). Construction is also ongoing on platform no. 3 and passenger tracks, which are scheduled to be brought into service in September this year. Three railway viaducts in the city are being rebuilt. A temporary bridge over the Słupia River has been built and is being used during the reconstruction of the main bridge.

Once works are completed in November 2026, Słupsk station will gain a long-awaited modern appearance. Raised platforms will facilitate easier boarding, and lifts will connect the underpass with the platforms. Historic shelters and kiosks will be preserved and restored, pointing out the historical character of the station. A modern passenger information system will aid navigation—displays will provide real-time arrival and departure updates. A fourth platform will be built and linked to the city’s transport hub, improving efficiency and safety of rail services. A new platform will also be added at Kobylnica Słupska, enhancing service along the Słupsk–Szczecin corridor.

Lębork–Słupsk Modernisation: New Tracks, Stops, and Higher Train Speeds

On the Lębork–Słupsk section, two new tracks between Lębork and Pogorzelice have been completed. Trains are already running on the new track between Jezierzyce Słupskie and Słupsk. At Potęgowo station, tracks no. 1 and 3 are in service. Historic signal boxes at Potęgowo and Damnica stations have been modernised and now use computer-based control systems. Trains also travel over the modernised bridge over the Łupawa River—the largest engineering structure along the nearly 50 km stretch being upgraded. New platforms are now available to passengers at Leśnice stop, as well as at Potęgowo and Damnica stations. New stops are being built at Runowo, Łebień, and Siemianice, improving accessibility in this part of the Pomeranian Voivodeship.

All stations and stops between Lębork and Słupsk will be redeveloped and made fully accessible for people with reduced mobility. The addition of a second track will increase line capacity and allow for more train services. Upon completion of the Lębork–Słupsk works, and planned upgrades on the Gdynia Chylonia–Lębork section, travel time between Gdynia and Słupsk for the fastest trains will be reduced by approximately 15 minutes.

Passenger train speeds will increase from 120 km/h to 160 km/h, while freight trains will go from 70 km/h to 120 km/h. Following modernisation and GSM-R system deployment, the ETCS system can also be installed, allowing trains to eventually reach speeds of up to 200 km/h on the upgraded line.
