On Saturday, May 7, trains resumed between Kyiv and Irpen. Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Kirill Tymoshenko announced it on his Telegram channel.

"Today, the first train arrived at the Irpen railway station after the end of hostilities. If before this news was not news at all, then in the war conditions, communication restoration between cities is a strategic task number one," Tymoshenko writes.

According to Oleksandr Kamyshyn, chairman of the board of Ukrzaliznytsia, this is currently the most complicated project to restore infrastructure during the war.

The last time the train moved on these tracks was during the evacuation of Kyiv residents. At that time, enemy artillery fired, causing several empty passenger cars to derail. After the de-occupation of the region, rail and road services began to be restored. The railway bridge in Irpen was restored in less than a month. Railway workers of the Lviv Bridge Construction Detachment and specialists of the State Special Transport Service were engaged in the restoration.

"The opening of the railway connection with Bucha, Vorzel, Borodyanka, and other settlements of the Kyiv region is ahead. Kyiv City Express trains will run on the route," Tymoshenko added.

Oleksandr Kamyshin rode the restored bridge with Andriy Yermak, the Head of the President's Office, Oleksandr Kubrakov, the Minister of Infrastructure, Olena Shulyak, the Chairwoman of the Servant of the People party, and a team of railway workers.
