PKP Intercity has introduced a new feature in its sales systems that allows travelers to offset their CO₂ emissions when purchasing tickets.
Available through the mobile app and e-IC 2.0 system, this new functionality enables passengers to make voluntary contributions that will go towards environmental projects. According to the company, these funds will be used for eco-friendly initiatives such as forest planting, species protection, and investments in renewable energy.
The contributions made by passengers are targeted for environmental purposes and cannot be used for activities that involve fossil fuels or other harmful practices. The funds will support projects like ecosystem restoration, thermo-modernization, and reducing atmospheric emissions. "This new functionality allows passengers to actively participate in PKP Intercity’s environmental efforts," said a company spokesperson.
Travelers can opt to donate PLN 2, 3, or 5 (EUR 0.47, 0.70, or 1.17 respectively) during the ticket purchase process, or they can enter a custom amount. Currently, the payment can be made using BLIK, with more options expected in the future. PKP Intercity joins other transport providers like LOT Polish Airlines, Leo Express, and Flixbus in offering CO₂ offsetting, further emphasizing its commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR).
