Lithuanian Railways (LTG) is leading the charge to fully integrate the region's railway companies with Europe, mobilising other Baltic States and Ukraine to join the FREE Rail programme. The goal is to achieve full integration by 2030, which will allow for more opportunities for businesses and citizens.

LTG is developing a rail operating model tailored to the Baltic States based on EU rail standards and best practices. The initiative will enable full integration with Europe in terms of business relations, technology, and IT. The programme also covers steps that LTG Group companies are taking to move from the KLUB-U comprehensive unified locomotive safety system to other locomotive safety systems.

The initiative is supported by Baltic States and Ukraine railway companies, which will attract additional freight flows, provide more travel opportunities for the population, and contribute to military mobility. Egidijus Lazauskas, LTG CEO, said the programme covers a wide range of tasks, from the establishment of legal bases to regulatory arrangements for certification and repair of rolling stock, and will also include necessary IT solutions.
