Renovation of the façade, interiors, and a completely new arrangement of the area around the building are just some of the elements of the redevelopment of the railway station in Błonie, thanks to which it will become a friendly space for all travelers. PKP S.A. has handed over the construction site to the contractor.
The investment, which will start any day now, is part of the Station Investment Programme 2016-2023, implemented with EU funding from the Operational Programme Infrastructure and Environment. Thanks to it, the seventy-year-old railway station, built in 1952 in the Socialist Realist style, will undergo a comprehensive reconstruction. The façade of the building, with its uncomplicated geometric detailing and characteristic decorative window bars, will undergo renovation. It will be given a new beige color, and the lower part will be finished with sandstone cladding, as will the columns on the platform side. The station's façade will be highlighted by a new illumination at night. Also new will be the clocks on the front façade and the side of the platforms, as well as the illuminated spatial inscriptions Railway station and Błonie.

The interior of the building will be a combination of historical and modern elements. In the design of the lobby, the terrazzo floor with geometric patterns, cladding, and countertops will be preserved. The interior furnishings will also be new - lighting, benches, baskets, a clock, display cases for timetables, and electronic boards for train arrivals and departures. The interior, in line with the latest trends, has been designed in shades of white and grey. A ticket office, toilets, and a small shopping arcade with several outlets will be located next to the station lobby. An animal clinic will be located in the west wing of the building, as before.
"Railway stations in the Mazovia region are changing before our eyes, becoming comfortable and modern buildings serving passenger traffic. A fortnight ago, we handed over a beautiful railway station in Kornelin near Sochaczew. Now the time has come to rebuild the Błonie station. I am convinced that thanks to this investment, residents and travelers will gain another comfortable and environmentally friendly facility," says Maciej Małecki, Secretary of State at the Ministry of State Assets.
"The start of the rebuilding of the railway station in Błonie is another element of the great modernization of the Polish railway. Residents of the western Warsaw district will thus gain access to safe and comfortable railway infrastructure. I hope that the modernized station building will become a landmark of the town, the center of the local community, and will make it easier for passengers to travel around the region. All this is thanks to the Railway Station Investment Programme, under which the Polish government will allocate more than PLN 2 billion for the modernization of nearly 200 railway stations by 2023," said Andrzej Bittel, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Infrastructure.

"The modernization and comprehensive extension of the railway station in Błonie is another investment of this kind in the Mazovia region, which shortly will contribute to improving the architecture and infrastructure around the railway in our country. I am pleased that the investment, which received support from European funds, is also environmentally friendly and adapted to the needs and expectations of people with disabilities. In this way, it also fits in with the successful accessibility policy being implemented in our ministry," said Grzegorz Puda, Minister for Funds and Regional Policy.
"After recently opening the railway stations in Kornelin, Garwolin, Łaskarzew, and Zajezierz near Dęblin for travelers, we are starting another investment in the Mazovia region. Thanks to it, the seventy-year-old railway station in Błonie will undergo comprehensive reconstruction and become a building combining characteristic style with modernity. The building will also be environmentally friendly and accessible to all travelers, and the station yard will be more functional," says Ireneusz Maślany, member of the Management Board of Polskie Koleje Państwowe S.A. (Polish State Railways).
The project to rebuild the station also involves adapting the building to the needs of people with reduced mobility. Architectural barriers will be eliminated, and several improvements will be introduced, including guided paths, signage in Braille, contrasting interior colors, and toilets adapted for people with disabilities. There will also be a new ramp to the building for wheelchair users.
The station will not only be modern but also environmentally friendly. In addition to energy-efficient lighting, photovoltaic panels have been designed on the roof of the building, which will generate around 4,300 kWh of 'green energy' electricity per year. In addition, the station will get new windows and doors that meet current standards, as well as an intelligent building management system (BMS). It will control equipment and installations and optimize water, electricity, and heat consumption.
The modernization of the station also involves changes to its immediate surroundings. The square in front of the building will be completely rebuilt. A bus stop, spaces for the disabled and taxis, and a kiss&ride zone will be located directly in front of the entrance to the building. On the other hand, the remaining parking spaces will be located closer to the street, around the newly designed island, which will also house a bicycle shelter. The station square will also get new pavements and elements of small architecture, including bins, benches, etc.

The reconstruction of the railway station in Błonie will cost PLN 14.8 million gross. The investor is Polskie Koleje Państwowe S.A., and the contractor for the construction work is SKB S.A. The project documentation for the investment was prepared by the architectural studio Demiurg Sp. z o.o. Sp. k. from Poznań. The planned opening date for the station for travelers is the end of 2023.
