Last Thursday, China completed testing of its first independently developed hydrogen-powered urban train, running at a speed of 160 kph.
Developed by CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles Co., Ltd., the train achieved a full-system, full-scenario, and multi-level performance verification after having been tested on a test track belonging to the enterprise according to Xinhua.

The trains' hydrogen power system, being a long-lasting power source, expands their cruising range to over 1,000 km, distinguishing them from traditional trains relying on catenary systems or fossil fuels for their power supply and making them compatible with Alstom's Coradia iLint. Moreover, test data similarly indicates that the train's average energy usage stands at 5 kWh per kilometer, aligning with global standards of excellence.
