The new ComfortJet will connect Prague, Vienna, and Carinthia. On the way to the Alps, it will pass through the 33-kilometre Koralm Tunnel, one of the longest in Europe.

With the participation of ČD Chairman and CEO Michal Krapinec and ÖBB Chairman and CEO Andreas Matthä, the ComfortJet was presented to the Austrian public at Vienna Central Station. From 14 December, ComfortJets will ensure the regular operation of three pairs of Vindobona trains between Prague, Brno, Vienna, the Styrian city of Graz, and the Carinthian cities of Klagenfurt and Villach.

On this occasion, Michal Krapinec, Chairman of the Board and CEO of České dráhy, said: "Last year, together with ÖBB, we celebrated the 10th anniversary of our connection between Prague, Vienna, and Graz. Today, I am pleased to present the new results of our continued cooperation: the modern ComfortJet and a direct connection between Carinthia and the Czech Republic, mutually beneficial for our passengers and for economic cooperation between the two countries."

Andreas Matthä, Chairman of the Board and CEO of ÖBB-Holding AG, then said: "Together with ČD, we are creating new, comfortable services for our passengers: from Prague via Vienna and Graz all the way to Villach. With the new ComfortJet and a direct connection to Carinthia, we are sending a strong signal for international rail transport and consistently investing in the future of environmentally friendly travel."

ComfortJet: Maximum Capacity with Modern Equipment

By expanding their services, ČD and ÖBB are responding to a sharp increase in demand for international rail travel. Since the launch of Railjet services in 2014, the number of passengers between Vienna and Prague has increased by approximately 40 percent. Demand for climate-friendly, comfortable, and direct rail connections is growing massively, and both railway companies are expanding the offer of such services.

In addition to expanding the offer of trains between Prague and Vienna, train capacity will also increase. The new nine-car ComfortJet sets offer 113 more seats than previous trains. 555 seats, 99 in first class, mean greater availability and a more pleasant journey for passengers. The trains also include a restaurant section with 18 seats, a section for passengers using wheelchairs, areas reserved for families with children, a children’s cinema, and space for up to 12 bicycles.

Railjet Vindobona services Prague – Brno – Vienna – Graz – Klagenfurt – Villach will depart Prague Main Station at approximately 06:37, 10:37 and 14:37, with a journey time of around eight hours. The section from Graz to Klagenfurt will be covered on the brand-new Koralmbahn in approximately three-quarters of an hour. This section includes the 33-kilometre Koralm Tunnel, the fourth-longest railway tunnel in Europe. The line allows trains on this section to reach speeds of up to 230 km/h. Trains from Carinthia will arrive at Prague Main Station at approximately 13:23, 19:23, and 23:32. Graz and Villach are also important interchange hubs for onward travel to Slovenia, Croatia, and Italy.

ComfortJet: The Journey All the Way to Villach

The ComfortJet was also presented in the Styrian city of Graz and in Klagenfurt in Carinthia. Its journey will end in Villach. Several test runs on the Koralmbahn at speeds of up to 230 km/h are planned on Thursday.
