PKP Intercity is expanding its fleet with an additional 15 state-of-the-art multi-system electric locomotives, a part of its monumental PLN 27 billion investment program. The locomotives, capable of reaching speeds up to 200 km/h, are manufactured by NEWAG, based in Nowy Sącz, Poland. This extension to the October 2021 contract with NEWAG, increases the order's gross value from 258.6 to nearly PLN 388 million. The first of these cutting-edge vehicles is slated to hit the tracks by the turn of 2023 and 2024.

The sophisticated locomotives will not only bolster speeds but also offer a more comfortable and eco-friendly travel experience. They will be homologated for six countries including Poland, Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Hungary. Equipped with the European ETCS Level 2 train control system, the locomotives will significantly enhance safety standards on the tracks. A remote diagnostics system will ensure real-time monitoring of the locomotives' performance, promoting efficient operation.
