Ocean Network Express (ONE), the world's sixth-largest container dry bulk carrier, has announced a move to rail. From now on, the company will use METRANS trains for transportation between European ports and inland areas, particularly between Central Europe and the ports of Hamburg and Bremerhaven in Germany and Koper in Slovenia.

ONE is committed to providing its customers with the CO2-neutrality certifications that the German accreditation body TÜV has awarded to METRANS equipment.

"Procuring the TÜV-certified services allows ONE to pass on their eco-conscious efforts to their carrier haulage customers by providing carbon-neutral certificates on request," Ocean Network Express explained.

METRANS is implementong the METRANS HHLA Pure project, which aims to make port and intercity transportation CO2-neutral. Hybrid and electric locomotives and electrified terminal handling processes are crucial to this process.

Achieving environmental goals is a complex set of diverse measures in various fields, and it has long been clear that rail transport plays no small part in its success. ONE's transition to rail for continental transportation is yet further evidence of this.
