Early morning travellers on the Almtalbahn between Sattledt and Wels can look forward to two additional train connections from 5 September.

The two trains will run on weekdays, except Saturdays, at the following times:

  • R3243 with scheduled departure from Wels at 5:43 am; arrival in Sattledt at 6:04 am.
  • R3244 with scheduled departure from Sattledt at 6:13 am; arrival in Wels at 6:34 am.

The additional connections were established due to an initiative of the Federal Ministry for Climate Protection, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology (BMK) in coordination with the Province of Upper Austria and the Rail Infrastructure Service Company (SCHIG). The connections will also continue in the 2023 timetable.

"With the Upper Austrian infrastructure offensive, we have made a promise to maintain all regional railway lines in Upper Austria, to invest in their modernisation and thus in the development of rural areas. However, not only the infrastructure will be continuously improved, but the service will be successively expanded. In this way, we are increasing the attractiveness of the regional public transport service on the Almtalbahn and hope to be able to convince additional passengers of the advantages of ecological mobility," says Provincial Councillor for Infrastructure Günther Steinkellner.

For a relaxed commute

"The additional service is, of course, particularly valuable for commuters. There are additional connections to large companies in the region, such as Fronius International in Oberhart. In addition, connections to the nearest provincial capitals are easily reached," explains Eva Hackl, Regional Manager ÖBB-Personenverkehr AG Oberösterreich.

An onward journey from Wels in the direction of Marchtrenk and Linz, for example, would be possible with the REX1687 (scheduled departure from Wels Hbf at 6:40 am/arrival in Marchtrenk at 06:44, Linz Hbf at 6:56). From Wels in the direction of Salzburg, the RJ848 (scheduled departure from Wels Hbf at 6:45/arrival in Salzburg Hbf at 07:48) or also the local connection with REX 5056 (scheduled departure from Wels Hbf 6:40) are possible.
