Deutsche Bahn has announced a significant milestone in the development of the new high-speed transport generation (HGV 3.0) in Germany.
Following a call for tenders, Alstom Transport Deutschland and Siemens Mobility have been commissioned by DB to collaborate in developing an independent vehicle concept for the new train generation, with DB contributing its expertise as one of the largest high-speed fleet operators globally.

The completion of this development phase will be followed by a further tender, expected in the second half of 2023, which will entail the construction, approval, and development of the new fleet, and be open to other manufacturers.
The new train generation is expected to replace older ICE 3 trains and expand the ICE fleet to cater to a growing number of passengers. Single-deck trains with a maximum length of 400 meters, speeds of at least 300 km/h, and seating for approximately 950 passengers are anticipated, designed to set new standards in energy efficiency, technical availability, and passenger comfort.
