SYSTRA will provide project management consultancy services for the Belgrade Metro (Line 1) under a contract signed with the Ministry of Transport, the City of Belgrade and the Belgrade Metro and Train utility.

The construction of the three metro lines in Belgrade is planned to strengthen public transport options and reduce car use and is the first metro project in the Western Balkans.

According to SYSTRA, the design of the first line, which will be predominantly underground, is divided into the Makiš depot, the 15.4 km long first phase, which consists of 15 stations, and the 5.96 km long second phase, which consists of 6 stations. French driverless technology will be used in the trains and systems of the first line, which is due to be commissioned by 2030. SYSTRA, in turn, will monitor the design and construction contracts (including permits, costs, progress, quality and performance, etc.)

Jean-Charles Vollery, Chief Operating Officer of SYSTRA, expressed his delight that the company has been selected to support the Serbian client's teams. "This project will have a very positive impact on the lives of Belgrade residents, by significantly reducing the carbon footprint and strengthening the attractiveness of the city. The Republic of Serbia can count on our long-term dedication to support the implementation of efficient, safe and innovative transport projects in the country and our commitment to the transfer of know-how to the Serbian engineering community," says SYSTRA's COO.

The contract is in line with the Cooperation Agreement signed between the governments of Serbia and France in 2020 for the implementation of major structural projects.
