PKP Intercity has set a new benchmark in its history with the awarding of a colossal tender for the acquisition of 300 new railcars, with an option for an additional 150 units, marking this as the largest rolling stock tender in terms of vehicle count for the carrier.
The contract, valued at PLN 4.24 billion (approximately EUR 1 billion), with a potential increase to PLN 6.36 billion if the option is exercised, has been secured with Poznań-based H. Cegielski - Fabryka Pojazdów Szynowych sp. z o.o.
The order covers diverse carriage types designed to redefine comfort and accessibility in rail travel. The introduction of these vehicles will see PKP Intercity's fleet enriched with first and second class compartment cars, second class cars equipped for disabled passengers, bicycle-friendly cars, dining cars, and day-night coaches, all capable of speeds up to 200 km/h.
