Against the background of structural development in Lusatia, Deutsche Bahn and LEAG will be working even more closely together in future. The two companies have concluded a further training pact and signed a long-term cooperation agreement on the future joint use of the training facility at the LEAG power plant in Jänschwalde.

The essence of the cooperation is that DB will train some of its junior staff at the Jänschwalde training facility under the leadership of LEAG until 2025. DB will operate this facility from 2025. Then the junior staff of DB, LEAG, and third-party companies will be made professionally fit for the future there.

Only on 29 August, 100 young men and women started their training for jobs at DB in Cottbus, 60 of them at the training workshop in Jänschwalde.

Brandenburg's Minister President Dietmar Woidke: "Structural development in Lusatia is making clear and visible progress. Politics and business are keeping their word. In this respect, this cooperation agreement is a further, decisive step on the way to a sustainable future for Lusatia! With this agreement, the know-how of the employees will be preserved and existing resources will continue to be used. Above all, however, jobs will be secured and new ones created. Deutsche Bahn and LEAG are sending a clear signal of hope and perspective to the people here in Lusatia today. Many thanks to both companies for their commitment and to everyone else who is actively working for Lusatia and the people here!"

DB Chief Human Resources Officer Martin Seiler: "With our new ICE maintenance plant in Cottbus, we are creating around 1,200 high-quality industrial jobs and apprenticeships and are delighted to have so many young talents. Together with LEAG, we can offer these young people a secure future and prospects in Lusatia. In the course of the cooperation, one of DB's largest training centres will be developed in Jänschwalde at a LEAG site rich in tradition. It is successful structural change with exemplary character."

"The training pact with DB is an important milestone towards long-term cooperation between the two companies, which will open up prospects for the young generation in Lusatia," said a delighted Jörg Waniek, LEAG Board Member for Human Resources. Against the backdrop of structural change in Lusatia and the upheavals in Germany's energy supply, he said, it was forward-looking to exploit synergies and joint potential. "As a large training company and employer, we take responsibility for our employees as well as the region. In the course of LEAG's transformation, new employment opportunities will arise in new business fields. That's why we are pooling our expertise in vocational training and professional development with DB to meet the new requirements," says LEAG Chief Human Resources Officer Jörg Waniek.

By 2024, DB will have brought more than 500 new employees and trainees on board, and in 2026 another 700 new jobs will be added. In total, the new plant in Cottbus will create 1,200 new highly qualified industrial jobs and apprenticeships.

Heavy maintenance for ICE 4 trains will take place at the new high-tech plant in Cottbus. For this purpose, industrial mechanics, mechatronics engineers and electronics engineers will be recruited.
