foto: Alstom/Alstom Is to Launch a Railway Academy in Egypt in Collaboration with the Ministry of Transport
Alstom, a global leader in smart and green mobility, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Transportation (MOT) during the 27th Conference of the Parties (COP27), to launch the first railway academy in Egypt. The MoU was signed by H.E. Kamel El Wazir, Egyptian Minister of Transportation and Andrew DeLeone, President of Alstom in Africa, the Middle East, and Central Asia.
The railway academy is a customised training programme to ensure a strong workforce is in place to support Egypt’s growing rail industry and will enrol up to 300 participants in its first year. Participants will gain the technical railway skills needed across various fields such as telecommunication, signalling, power supply, centralised control systems and maintenance. They will also develop project management know-how specifically for the railway sector.

The academy consists of three programmes to address young talent at different stages of their career. The Master Class Programme (MCP) is a short-term programme of 8 weeks, in partnership with the Egyptian National Railway and the National Authority of Tunnels for their respective employees. The Master Expert Programme (MEP) is a long-term programme of 9 months, in partnership with the National Institute of Transport designed for fresh graduates wanting to enter the rail industry, and the Master Training Programme (MTP) is a 6-week summer course in partnership with Wardan High Technical Institute for students. These programmes will be delivered by trainers from Alstom University, as well as Alstom experts and are expected to launch in the first quarter of 2023.
“This academy is part of Alstom’s commitment to supporting the development of the rail industry in the country by ensuring graduates have the relevant knowledge and skills to successfully seek employment opportunities and grow in the industry. More importantly, the programme will allow them to apply their learnings to solve real mobility challenges,” said Andrew DeLeone, President of Alstom in Africa, the Middle East, and Central Asia.

Today, Alstom has a strong local talent pool of over 500 people and several ongoing projects including the development and modernisation of Egypt’s urban network. This includes two Monorail lines connecting the New Administrative Capital City to Greater Cairo and 55 Metropolis trains for the historic Cairo Metro line 1. Alstom is also in charge of the modernisation of the signalling system on the 240-kilometre Beni Sueif – Assyut line.
