A recent intervention by Bulgarian customs in Ruse led to the suspension of a batch of Euro pallets bound for Bulgaria from Ukraine. This action was taken after the ÖBB Rail Cargo Group (RCG), the trademark holder for the EUR in Oval logo, was alerted about potential trademark violations. Upon examination of the visuals forwarded by the customs officials, RCG confirmed the pallets as counterfeit, necessitating their destruction. The importer, who was promptly notified about the nature of the seized goods, failed to respond within the specified timeframe.

The issue was handled swiftly, in large part due to the collaborative efforts between ÖBB RCG and Bulgarian customs. A vigilant RCG staff member played a pivotal role, ensuring the counterfeit Euro-pallet, which had been stored at the customs warehouse, was not only identified but also destroyed.

Thomas Metlich, a representative from ÖBB-Holding AG, emphasized the urgency with which the organization addresses such trademark infringements. He noted, "Our primary aim is to act promptly and effectively to safeguard the integrity of the open Euro-pallet exchange pool against potential quality breaches." Furthermore, he underscored the organization's commitment to upholding trademark rights, with actions always geared towards protecting EUR licensees and users of the distinguished EUR in Oval brand.
